   Résumé
   Le machinisme a pris le pouvoir au sein d'une cité futuriste. Le dérèglement d'un ordinateur est le point de départ des aventures d'un fonctionnaire modèle, Sam Lowry. Parti à la recherche de la femme de ses rêves, il devient complice d'un criminel puis, suspect aux yeux de ses supérieurs, finit dans une chambre de tortures…
   Commentaire
   Séparé des Monty Python, Terry Gilliam provoque ici une explosion d'images inventives. Il mélange les genres, joue avec la satire sociale et accumule les décors majestueusement baroques à travers une recherche picturale de chaque plan. Avec un sens de l'absurde féroce, Brazil offre une représentation à la fois cauchemardesque et délirante d'un univers étouffant toute personnalité. Irrésistiblement drôle et inquiétant, ce film visionnaire revisite Kafka et Orwell sur le rythme déchaîné d'un dessin animé.
